Although Lyons records 33 1c Browne & Co. covers, the 1c is much rarer used alone on a local Cincinnati cover versus to-the-mails outbound usage. Lyons records only three such covers, plus one local cover with three uncancelled 1c stamps.

Cut close at sides. Otherwise, sound and very scarce.

G. Carter's Despatch. 90 N. Fifth St. Paid. Small circular handstamp, much clearer strike than usual, with blue "Philada. Pa. 5 Mar. 22" cds on 1849 folded letter from the proprietor, George Carter, with interesting content regarding accounts with the post office. Light wear and soiling along file fold, otherwise Very Fine, scarce marking.

Black G. CARTER's/90/N. FIFTH ST./PAID/DESPATCH handstamp on November 24, 1848 folded letter to Pennsylvania. Nov 27 Philadelphia cds. Rare use.

Black G. Carter's Despatch datestamp with curved fancy "PAID" on November 30, 1849 cover discussing payment of goods for church.

According to Roth, it is very scarce to find an example of the handstamp "PAID", in any of its forms, on an envelope or folded letter which did not also bear an adhesive stamp.

Hahn records this as the last use of the "PAID" handstamp in his notes.

2c Black, Plate Variety #3 ("A" is not connected at bottom"), on cover to Pennsylvania. July 12 Philadelphia 5 cent cds, with a PF Cert which states, "SINGLE, PEN CANCEL, ON COVER TO NORRISTOWN, PA, BLUE PHILADELHIA PMK AT RIGHT. AND WE ARE OF THE OPINON THAT: IT IS A GENUINE USAGE."

Unused single, no gum, exceptionally large even margins all around, fresh color and nice impression.

Thin wove, with disturbed gum. Cut at top center.

Large cogged oval handstamp in violet with matching "SPECIAL S.U." straightline on manufacturer's cover locally-addressed, Fine, a late local "courier" that operated in the 1890's
