Folded letter from the "Housatonic RR Office", February 13, 1846, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and carried outside the mails to New York City, saving 5c. It was collected by U.S. City Despatch Post on February 20 and was deposited with the post office where it was struck with red circular "New-York 2cts Feb 21" handstamp. According to the Postal Act of March 3, 1845, the addressee paid 4c (2c for collection and 2c for carrier delivery.)
