Stampless Valentine Cover, Rerated from 3c to 2c Drop Rate

Embossed envelope addressed to Miss E. Rogers, South Medina, and struck with bold red "PROVIDENCE R.I. FEB 14" (CA. 1850) circular datestamp and matching red manuscript "3", initially indicating 3c prepaid postage for intercity mail. The cover was subsequently rerated to "2" cents, possibly 1c for drop and 1c for delivery. An unusual usage.
