The Bank of California check dated May 15, 1872, in the amount of $500.00, payable to H. Sinton & Co., and signed by C.J. Brenham. Featuring a North Pacific Transportation Company vignette at left.
Charles J. Brenham was a notable figure in early California history—an 1849er, Sacramento River steamboat captain, partner in the gold dust firm Sanders & Brenham, and second mayor of San Francisco (1851–52). Financial documents bearing his autograph are scarce and highly desirable, especially those connected to prominent banking institutions like the Bank of California.
